15th day of the 4th month, 2138 (15 June, 2011)
Wednesday, 15 June, is the anniversary of three important events: the Birth, the Enlightenment, and the Passing into Parinirvana by Shakyamuni Buddha. We consider on this day positive and negative actions are multiplied by one million times.
We consider this to be a very holy day. Since it is the anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni's enlightenment and because of hs prayers for all sentient beings, it is thought that merit accumulated on this day is multiplied 100,000 times or more.
In Namdroling Monastery, the sangha (community) of Monks and Nuns are completing a week-long prayer intensive known as a Great Accomplishment Group Practice (Drupchen). This is followed by Ritual Dance (Cham) and the hanging of a 180-foot painting (Thangka) of Shakyamuni Buddha. A Fire Offering Puja is held as well.
If you would like to accumulate merit and join in the practices on this special day, you can do any of the following:
- Join practice at your local center
- Do not eat meat
- Feed and save the lives of animals
- Recite the Mantra of the Buddha (Om Muni Muni Maha Muniye Soha)
