The Fundraising Program in New York City that culminated in a Unity Fundraising Banquet brought together many people from various local Buddhist communities and even from other US states. Khenchen Tsewang Gyeatso Rinpoche, Khenpo Norgey Rinpoche and Palyul monks led us in celebrating the legacy of late His Holiness Penor Rinpoche whose enlightened vision and activities led to the creation and flourishing of an international community of Dharma practitioners who are following the tradition of Palyul Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
It was His Holiness’s wish to have a well-functioning hospital at the Namdroling Monastery that will not only provided much-needed healthcare to the thousands of monks and nuns there, but also to the residents of the Tibetan and Indian villages in the surrounding rural area in the South Indian state of Karnataka. It is through the blessings of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche and al the lineage masters and due to the tireless leadership and inspiration of Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche that the Namdroling TT Hospital Fundraising campaign was possible. It is because of your generosity and compassion that this campaign was successful!
Following are some pictures from the Namdroling Hospital Fundraising Banquet and a link to a picture album.

| Announcing $30,000 Matching Fund for Namdroling Hospital Equipment Fundraising!
We are happy to announce a Dollar-to-Dollar Matching Fund (up to $30,000) made available by a generous anonymous donor.
This means that every dollar of your donation will now be doubled. It is now possible to raise up to $60,000 leveraging this $30,000 matching fund. This means that if the Matching Fund is fully leveraged through our donations, there will be sufficient funds to equip the entire Emergency Care Unit of the Namdroling Tsepal Tobkyed Hospital (approximate equipment cost $50,000) and even have enough funds to start procuring equipment for the next phases -- Clinical Laboratory, Radiography and Dialysis stations.

“...I worked for His Holiness Penor Rinpoche during his last days. It was the wish of His Holiness to have a self sufficient and self sustainable hospital for his monks and nuns. With the help of the Tulku Rinpoche[s], Senior Khenpo Rinpoche[s] and both of the Administrators, I am doing my best to fulfill his wishes. Now I am really happy to see [that] his students around the world are working to make his dream a reality...”
-- Dr. Ananthu Srinivas, Chief of Medical Service, Namdroling Tsepal Tobkyed Hospital

In fulfilling late HH Penor Rinpoche’s wish to have a modern hospital serving residents of the Namdroling Monastery and surrounding villages, great progress has already been made. With the generous financial support of Palyul followers and the hard work, perseverance and dedication of the Namdroling ordained community, a spacious building with sufficient capacity for performing basic hospital care and a 40-bed in-patient ward has been built; some basic equipment has been secured; main facilities have been computerized and the hospital has sufficient medical and administrative staff. Most importantly, all necessary documents and licenses have been obtained. On August 12, 2010, registration by the Karnataka state was received enabling Namdroling TT hospital to operate. To maintain the medical license, and be able to perform basic healthcare services, the hospital must be outfitted with the necessary equipment. For details and associated costs, please visit http://www.palyul.org/eng_centers_namdrol_hospital.htm). Now, each one of us can take part in this noble effort by making a tax-deductable donation -- no amount is too large or too small. Every dollar of your donation will go directly towards equipment purchase.

A 14-year-old monk Tashi Phuntsok was admitted to Namdroling Hospital upon loosing consciousness. He needed critical care support and had to be shifted to Vikram Hospital in Mysore (almost 70 miles away). His life could have been saved if Namdroling Hospital Emergency Care Unit had necessary medical equipment.
When a 9-year-old monk, Ogen Dorjee, developed a life-threatening neurological complication to chickenpox, he needed an intensive care support (lung ventilator, oxygen, vital sign monitoring, etc.) and had to be shifted to Mission Hospital in Mysore. After spending 49 days at the Intensive Care Unit, the hospital bill amounted to $6,158.
A 12-year-old village boy, Guru Tenzin, needed an X-Ray and an emergency surgery after fracturing his right leg. He also had to be transported to Mysore to receive necessary medical treatment (cost - $770). Your donation will be used to purchase necessary equipment for the Emergency Care Unit so that patients like Tashi Phuntsok, Ogen Dorjee and Guru Tenzin and many others can receive emergency treatment right at the Namdroling Hospital

A 72-year-old Lama Choegyl was brought to Namdroling Hospital with generalized swelling and breathlessness and needed urgent lab investigations. Because the Hospital’s lab lacks necessary equipment, Lama Choegyl had to be transported almost 70 miles away to Columbia Asia Hospital in Mysore where he was diagnosed with renal failure and started on dialysis treatment. At this time, because there is no dialysis equipment at the Namdroling Hospital, the patient has to travel 70 miles each way 3 times a week to receive treatment at a cost of $551 per month.
There are currently 168 Namdroling monks and nuns who are Hepatitis B positive and urgently need various medical tests before starting the antiviral treatment. Because Namdroling Hospital lab does not have necessary equipment, the patients have to travel to Mysore and incur the cost of $132 per person.
Please help us raise necessary funding to outfit Namdroling Hospital Lab and obtain other urgently needed equipment, such as dialysis machines, defibrillators, syringe pumps, etc. (see detailed list at http://www.palyul.org/docs/namdroling_tt_hospital_cost_document.doc
